| Introduction Slovenia is one of those rare countries in which there are many outdoor activities to enjoy in virtually an unspoiled landscape. Fishing here is a paradise as the alpine rivers are crystal-clear, there are deep lakes, fabulous chalk streams, small brooks of the meadows and wide rivers of the plains. In addition, fishermen have the rare opportunity of fishing in different types of water with their own natural fauna and flora. | Click to enlarge
| Day 1: Arrival -Ljubljana First stop is at the fly-fishing shop to learn the conditions of the rivers in the area and to purchase our permits and locally tied flies. A combination of dry flies, nymphs and streamers will be needed here in Slovenia. We take a brief tour of the sights of the city: Ljubljana Castle whose history includes its use as a castle, a defense core for the city, a prison and now a cultural monument. Next we spend some time in the Old Quarter discovering that Ljubljana is a city of the Baroque style. We will view several unique bridges: Cobblers' Bridge, Three Bridges)as well as other Baroque monuments such as The Cathedral, St. James's, the Holy Trinity, and The Theological Seminary. | Click to enlarge
| Day 2: Krka River Fishing begins early on the Krka River, which is a pure chalk stream with both brown and rainbow trout. It is a river of small waterfalls, fast runs and some deep pools making it an excellent habitat for large trout. Early in the season wet fly and nymph usually bring the best results, during the summer months, the fishing becomes more difficult as it does on any river. We will break at about 1pm to check into our farm hotel and have lunch. The remainder of the afternoon is open to relax or take a hike in the local trails. At about 6pm, we will be back n the river for the evening catch. We will return to the hotel in time for dinner. | Click to enlarge
| Day 3 & 4: Soca River Today we fish the Soca River for the famous Marble Trout. The Soca has been called “the jewel of Slovenian Rivers” for its natural beauty and abundance of fish. After an attempted dam construction project, the river is now protected by law as a national symbol. The Marble Trout here can grow to enormous sizes. The Soca river overflows its banks occasionally in June and July because of melting snow and the best period for fishing usually occurs in late August and September. We break for lunch and some free time. Returning back to the river after 6pm, we can fish until dark as evening is the best opportunity to catch a big Marble Trout. | Click to enlarge
